This is 2002, after the closing of the House of Ceramics of Mulhouse, that some of the first actors of this structure launch out in the creation of the IEAC, artistic structure in the field of the formation and the diffusion of the ceramic arts.
Projects
The project is anchored in Guebwiller, a city that saw the birth of one of the most prestigious ceramists of the 19rd century, Théodore Deck, appointed administrator of the Manufacture de Sèvres in 1887. The ceramist specialized in Egyptian turquoise blue which he made famous under the name of “Deck blue”. The City Museum also presents today one of the most important collections of his works.
Link name Link name Link nameIt is therefore consistent with this past that the IEAC was created in 2004 in Guebwiller. Installed in an industrial wasteland made available by the Community of Municipalities and then the City, the IEAC will be part of a cultural project in synergy with the labeling of local heritage as a "Country of Art and History" while by creating and offering a one-year course of high-level professional training entitled “Creator in ceramic arts”. After 16 years in the former Cartorhin industrial wasteland, in 2019 the IEAC joined the new cultural and tourist center of the Château de la Neuenbourg in Guebwiller.
By bringing into play a permanent dialogue with the circles of contemporary creation and that of the applied arts of ceramics, the IEAC contributes to the search for a better coherence between know-how and creation. The professional course provided at the IEAC is centered on the acquisition of data specific to ceramic materials, on the knowledge and appropriation of techniques for the production and implementation of materials, and integrates the development of artistic sensitivity.
Through its training, the establishment encourages dialogue and synergies to respond to major socio-economic changes and enrich the paths of trainees both in terms of creativity and professionalism. Ten trainees are trained each year.
The programming of ceramic events (exhibitions, conferences), hosting artists and designers in residence, support for projects (schools, sensitive audiences, students) and a wide range of courses and internships for all audiences complete the actions of the IEAC.
