Temporary exhibition hall at Neuenbourg Castle (CIAP)

 

The exhibition at Neuenbourg Castle, From Earth to Light: Two Centuries of Archaeology in AlsaceIt evokes the evolution of archaeological professions and methods from the 19th century to the present day. It highlights the major sites of the Guebwiller region:

le Hugstein Neolithic habitat found in the industrial zone of Soultz, the burial sites of Merxheim, the former Schwarzenthann conventreligious heritage sites such as Dominicans of Upper Alsace or the different Romanesque churches.

It also focuses on showing the evolution of the fields of archaeology: from Gallo-Roman sites and fortified castles excavated by scholars in the 19th century to the archaeology of landscapes or contemporary conflicts in the 21st century.

The exhibition will also include iconic pieces selected by Archaeology of Alsace as part of its travelling exhibition designed for its twentieth anniversary.

Théodore Deck Museum

On the 4th floor, discover an exhibition dedicated to the museum's archaeological collection. Continue your visit to the basement to explore or rediscover the collections of archaeology, mineralogy and lapidary pieces presented in the permanent exhibition.
The collection is accessible via guided tours or during museum opening hours.

Saint-Léger Church, Guebwiller

Immerse yourself in the excavations of the years 1978-1980 to understand the evolution of the building with three successive structures thanks to the professionalization of archaeological techniques.

Franco-German Historical Society Hartmannswillerkopf

Through two panels, the Hartmannswillerkopf site will be revealed from other angles: was it a prehistoric site? Recently, the archaeology of the Great War has made it possible to complete the information on life in the trenches.

Toy Ship

Two panels located outside will allow you to discover the history of the site and the archaeological excavations of the former commandery of the Hospitallers of Saint John.
